Solar Is Adding Jobs 20 Times Faster Than the Broader Economy, but ‘All Bets Are Off’ in 2017

According to survey data from The Solar Foundation, there are 173,807 solar workers in the U.S., up from 142,689 in the previous year, making the solar industry one of the bright spots in the U.S. job market. Between November 2013 and November 2014, solar employment increased by nearly 22 percent, almost twenty times faster than employment in the overall economy, according to the jobs census. Over the last five years, solar industry employment has grown by 86 percent, amounting to about 80,000 new jobs. This doesn't come as much of a surprise. According to data from GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association, it’s estimated that more than 7,200 megawatts

Uncertainty, sensitivity and policy: Kevin Cowtan’s AGU presentation

The surface thermometer record forms a key part of our knowledge of the climate system. However it is easy to overlook the complexities involved in creating an accurate global temperature record from historical thermometer readings. A Guide to Home Flooring Types

When you are buying a new home or fixing up your current one there are numerous things to consider. Just one of them is flooring, but this is a biggie. You have to consider price, how long it will last, how easy it will be to install, and how easy it will be to clean and maintain. Hardwood floors are the desire of many because they look so good and they last so long. They are also quite pricey though. Vinyl is pretty cheap but how long until someone scuffs it up or tears it? It is also ugly. Carpet is not too expensive but it is a major pain to keep clean. What

Flooring Choices: My Durability, Cost, & Environmental Perpective

When we built our house ten years ago, the choice of the right flooring was a huge decision. Not only did we look at the environmental aspect of each flooring choice but we also took into account durability and cost. It wasn’t easy.  Listed below were our flooring choices.  (Be sure to check out the infographic below that nicely summarizes your flooring options.) Some Background on our Flooring Choices. To give you some background, I live in New Jersey where dampness and humidity are not issues like in Florida. I also had four very active children under the age of 12 who had allergies as

How to Make a Traditional Snow Quinzee

The quinzee is a snow home extraordinaire. Faster to make than an igloo, a surprisingly warm abode for winter camping, and more fun than a barrel of monkeys, the quinzee is the king of natural winter retreats. Our green adventure team has made one for your edification (and of course theirs). What you need: Snow shovels A pile of sticks about 50 cm (20 inches) long Sleeping bag Picture of a unicorn riding a bicycle Step 1: Make a HUGE pile of snow. Its bottom circumference should be big enough to house all residents comfortably lying down. The bigger you make it, the longer it takes; but it’s totally worth the effort. Step 2: If possible, leave the snow overnight to settle

Press Sample Affiliate Link I love seeing drugstore brands, like L’Oreal push to expand their lines by offering more products, new formulas and increasing their color selection. Concept cars are always great fodder for gawking at automobile shows, and in turn they do a fine job of generating buzz and stellar photographs. Let’s Take the B.S. Out of Food Marketing

As I stared at a seemingly endless array of packaged chicken parts in a high-end grocery store recently, a mother of two strode up to the refrigerated section and decisively grabbed a package that promised “All-Natural Free-Range” chicken. “Yes!” she exclaimed to her kids. “Here they are!”“Why those?” I couldn’t help but ask her, intrigued by her unbridled enthusiasm. She wanted this
